Why does NuWa use tri-axles on it's longer trailers, while other manufacturers don't?

Tri-axle units sometimes get a "bad rap" from customers, who typically have not experienced a unit with them.  Those customers say  there is excessive tire drag when turning tightly, and there is more wear on the front tires, or that the cost of tire replacement is greater.  

These beliefs are not necessarily correct, and there are actually many benefits of a tri-axle design.   Cargo and braking capacity are increased because of the extra tires and axle.   More tires supporting the length of the trailer puts less stress on the trailer frame, tires and the suspension system.   And the extra axle creates a noticeably smoother ride, that some tri-axle owners describe as "floating".  The reality is that some longer trailers with only two axles are "pushing the envelope" of good safety design.  Too much overhang behind the axles creates frame stress and it causes the "tail flip" that moves furniture.  Excess weight is placed on fewer tires, wheels and axles during movement. 

Yes, there is some tire drag during sharp turns, as there is with a tandem axle design.  We suggest a rotation of tires to reduce the long term impact on any one tire, if there is concern.  The cost to replace the tires of a tri-axle is no more expensive on a HitchHiker, because we are able to use "E" range tires rather than "G" range tires, and still provide increased GVWR over a tandem design.  The cost and weight to use a tri-axle design is very similar to the cost and weight of a tandem axle design, if the tandem axles and tires are properly sized for the load, and this fact continues for the owner if tire replacement occurs over time. 

NuWa is very experienced with tri-axle design, and we know it works well for our customers.  We are extremely concerned about the many 37'-40' long units coming from Elkhart on tandem axles with "E" range tires.  Common sense design says this may not be in the best interests of the customer, especially with the tire issues we see being reported with owners of these brands.
